The fish oil doesn't count. The omega-3 is the sum of the eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), docosapentaenoic acid (DPA) and docosahexaenoic acids (DHA). See TwinLab TwinEPA.
Lifetime Moderate Physical Activity Significantly Reduces Risk for Breast Cancer - Doctor's Guide, 10/1/02 - "Moderate lifetime physical activity is associated with a 33 percent reduction in relative risk for premenopausal breast cancer and a 26 percent reduction in relative risk for breast cancer after menopause" - It didn't mention whether they accounted for diet so you don't know if the reduction could be attributed to the fact that people who exercise are more prone to watch their diet and take supplements. I would seem that exercise would increase the risk by increasing free radicals unless you took antioxidant supplements.
Chinese Cholesterol Control? - Dr. Weil, 10/1/02 - "And it contains seven different statins, not just lovastatin. In my experience, the natural mixture of compounds is less toxic (to the liver and muscles) than isolated lovastatin ... Other brands of red rice yeast extract are still available in the U.S., although they haven’t been clinically proven as was Cholestin, and may not be as effective" - The Solar brand at VitaminShoppe has been working for me. It can damage the liver as can other statins so you should take it under medical supervision. - Ben
Antioxidant Reduces Stroke Damage - WebMD, 10/1/02 - "A new study shows the antioxidant, known as AEOL 10150, neutralized hazardous free radicals and prevented cell death in a mouse model of stroke. Researchers say the antioxidant is designed to mimic a natural antioxidant, but it works against a wider range of free radicals and also lasts longer in the body" - That last sentence is why I take as large a variety of anti-oxidants as possible though out the day. I had a good article on my home page that explained why different anti-oxidants were required by various free radicals but the link went dead.
Acetylcysteine Can Reduce Cardiovascular Events in Patients with Endstage Renal Disease - Doctor's Guide, 10/1/02 - "therapy with acetylcysteine appears to significantly reduce cardiovascular events among haemodialysis patients" - See iHerb (5% discount code "qc") and Vitacost NAC products acetyl-l-cysteine products.

Total cholesterol fell by about 4% and LDL cholesterol fell by 7%, 12 weeks after taking the daily soy supplement"
Treating To Lower Blood Pressure Goal Reduces Aortic Stiffness - Doctor's Guide, 9/30/02 - "Treating non-diabetic hypertensive patients to a target goal of less than 130/85 mm/Hg appears to significantly reduce aortic stiffness, while treating to a goal of less than 140/90 mm/Hg had no effect on aortic stiffness ... the findings suggest that clinicians should treat to "a low target rather than simply treating to a goal of less than 140/90 mm/Hg.""
Gum Disease May Harm the Heart, Too - ABC News, 9/30/02 - "the Porphyromonas gingivalis bacterium can actually migrate from the mouth to the heart and cause inflammation in arteries that promotes atherosclerosis"
Non-steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drug Use May Slow Breast Cancer Tumour Growth, Prevent Distant Metastasis - Doctor's Guide, 9/30/02 - "increasing NSAID use may retard the growth of breast tumours and may prevent distant metastasis"
Chronic Therapy with Beta-Adrenergic Receptor Blockers Improves Endothelial Function in Patients with Chronic Heart Failure - Doctor's Guide, 9/30/02 - "Plasma norepinephrine levels decreased from 591 pg/mL before treatment to 426 pg/mL after six months of beta-blockade" - So does that mean beta blockers will cause depression or is blood norepinephrine totally independent from norepinephrine in the brain? Anyone that knows the answer, please email me at ben@qualitycounts.com.
Got Milk - WebMD, 9/27/02 - "A combination of soy and cow's milk could have some beneficial, anti-cancer nutrients ... She explains that conjugated linoleic acid, or CLA, is the key to the cow's role in cancer prevention. CLA is a minor fatty acid found in milk and milk products and beef ... He says he thinks the most potent cancer-fighting component of soy is a compound called genistein ... Exercise, Eating to Enhance Memory? - Dr. Weil, 9/26/02 - "We know that the incidence of Alzheimer’s is higher than normal among people whose diets are high in saturated fat, which causes free radical damage leading to inflammation of the brain. On the other hand, omega-3 fatty acids found in salmon, sardines and flax seeds appear to be protective. Blueberries are another food that seems to help ... The findings suggest that low HDL-C may play an adverse role not only in coronary heart disease but also in hypertensive heart disease" - See my HDL page for ways to raise it. I take inositol hexanicotinate.
