10News, 3/1/21 - "The paper, published in late January, says that taking
melatonin "for at least two weeks prior to vaccination can be a useful approach
to improve sleep quality and to ensure that the vaccination is performed at a
moment of optimal sleep conditions."" - See

Evaluation of the immune benefits of two probiotic strains Bifidobacterium
animalis ssp. lactis, BB-12® and Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei, L.
casei 431® in an influenza vaccination model: a randomised, double-blind,
placebo-controlled study - Br J Nutr. 2011 Sep 7:1-9 -
"The present study investigated the ability of Bifidobacterium animalis ssp.
lactis (BB-12®) and Lactobacillus paracasei ssp. paracasei (L. casei 431®)
to modulate the immune system using a vaccination model in healthy subjects.
A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study was
conducted in 211 subjects (56 % females, mean age 33.2 (sd 13.1) years).
Subjects consumed a minimum of 109 colony-forming units of BB-12® (capsule)
or L. casei 431® (dairy drink) or a matching placebo once daily for 6 weeks.
After 2 weeks, a seasonal influenza vaccination was given. Plasma and saliva
samples were collected at baseline and after 6 weeks for the analysis of
antibodies, cytokines and innate immune parameters. Changes from baseline in
vaccine-specific plasma IgG, IgG1 and IgG3 were significantly greater in
both probiotic groups v. the corresponding placebo group (L. casei 431®, P =
0.01 for IgG; P < 0.001 for remaining comparisons). The number of subjects
obtaining a substantial increase in specific IgG (defined as ≥ 2-fold above
baseline) was significantly greater in both probiotic groups v. placebo
(BB-12®, P < 0.001 for IgG, IgG1 and IgG3; L. casei 431®, P < 0.001 for IgG1
and IgG3). Significantly greater mean fold increases for vaccine-specific
secretory IgA in saliva were observed in both probiotic groups v. placebo
(BB-12®, P = 0.017; L. casei 431®, P = 0.035). Similar results were observed
for total antibody concentrations. No differences were found for plasma
cytokines or innate immune parameters. Data herein show that supplementation
with BB-12® or L. casei 431® may be an effective means to improve immune
function by augmenting systemic and mucosal immune responses to challenge"

Flu
vaccination linked to 40% reduced risk of Alzheimer's disease - Science
Daily, 6/24/22 - "These results underscore the strong
protective effect of the flu vaccine against Alzheimer's disease ... Since there
is evidence that several vaccines may protect from Alzheimer's disease, we are
thinking that it isn't a specific effect of the flu vaccine ... Instead, we
believe that the immune system is complex, and some alterations, such as
pneumonia, may activate it in a way that makes Alzheimer's disease worse. But
other things that activate the immune system may do so in a different way -- one
that protects from Alzheimer's disease. Clearly, we have more to learn about how
the immune system worsens or improves outcomes in this disease"

One
coronavirus vaccine may protect against other coronaviruses, study shows -
Science Daily, 10/15/21 - "coronavirus vaccines and
prior coronavirus infections can provide broad immunity against other, similar
coronaviruses. The findings build a rationale for universal coronavirus vaccines
that could prove useful in the face of future epidemics" - Note: I've
been pointing this out for years with regard to the flu. Why would the
coronavirus be any different?

Kids Who Got Flu Shot Had Milder COVID Symptoms - WebMD, 2/8/21 -
"Those who had their current flu shot were less likely
to have COVID-19 symptoms, respiratory problems or severe illness, University of
Missouri researchers said ... Kids who received the pneumococcal vaccine were
also less likely to have COVID-19 symptoms" - Note: I've been
saying for years that the flu vaccine partially protects against similar
viruses.

Can Some Vaccines Reduce Your Alzheimer’s Risk? - WebMD, 12/3/20 -
"getting a pneumonia vaccine between ages 65 and 75
reduced the risk of Alzheimer's disease by up to 30%. In people who didn't carry
a specific Alzheimer's genetic risk factor -- called rs2075650 G -- the
reduction in Alzheimer's risk was even better -- up to 40% ... In another study
this year, people who got one or more flu vaccines were 17% less likely to get
Alzheimer's disease. Those who got their flu shot more often had an additional
13% lower risk. Getting the first flu shot earlier in life -- at age 60 --
seemed to offer better protection than waiting until age 70 to get the vaccine
... These aren't the only studies to link vaccines with a reduced risk of
Alzheimer's disease. An older study of 4,000 people ages 65 and older found that
people who'd been exposed to the diphtheria, tetanus, polio, or flu vaccine had
a lower risk for dementia. In another study, people with chronic kidney disease
who got the flu vaccine were 30% to 40% less likely to get dementia, compared to
those who weren't vaccinated"

Why A Vaccine Won’t Be a Quick Fix for COVID-19 - WebMD, 9/3/20 -
"The idea that a vaccine will end the pandemic just
isn’t realistic ... First, not enough people will get the vaccine. Second, for
those who do take it, the vaccine may only offer partial protection from the
virus ... Typically, the herd immunity threshold for an infection is somewhere
between 70% and 90% of the population"
-
How Effective is the Flu Vaccine? - WebMD, 9/2/20 -
"The flu is a serious illness. When the viruses in the vaccine are a good match
with what’s circulating, the vaccine can reduce your risk of having the flu by
40%-60%. And even when the match isn’t great, being vaccinated before you get
the flu can help you avoid having a severe case. Numerous studies have shown
that the vaccine cuts your risk of having to go to the hospital -- and if you
are hospitalized, you’re much less likely to be admitted to the intensive care
unit ... According to the CDC’s estimates for the 2018-19 season, vaccinating
only half of all Americans prevented 4.4 million cases of the flu, 58,000
hospitalizations, and 3,500 deaths. That was in a year that the vaccine was only
29% effective."

Old Vaccines May Stop the Coronavirus, Study Hints. Scientists Are Skeptical
- NYT, 7/29/20 - "Now a study suggests that people who have received certain

Flu Vaccine Protective
Against Stroke, CV Events? - Medscape, 7/30/20 -
"Adults over the age of 50 years had a vaccination rate of 1.8% compared with
15.3% in the general population ... But these older adults who were vaccinated
had better outcomes in the year following vaccination, with a 28% lower risk of
MI, a 73% lower risk of death, a 47% lower risk of TIA, and a 73% lower risk of
all-cause mortality ... Among patients with obesity, 2.4% were vaccinated
compared with 9% of those with a healthy weight. And flu vaccination in obese
patients was associated with a 41% reduction in MI, a 55% reduction in TIA, and
a 76% reduction in all-cause mortality"

Flu,
pneumonia vaccinations tied to lower risk of Alzheimer's dementia -
Science Daily, 7/27/20 - "At least one flu
vaccination was associated with a 17% reduction in Alzheimer's incidence. More
frequent flu vaccination was associated with another 13% reduction in
Alzheimer's incidence ... Vaccination against pneumonia between ages 65 and 75
reduced Alzheimer's risk by up to 40% depending on individual genes ... The
researchers found the protective association between the flu vaccine and the
risk of Alzheimer's was strongest for those who received their first vaccine at
a younger age -- for example, the people who received their first documented flu
shot at age 60 benefitted more than those who received their first flu shot at
age 70 ... pneumococcal vaccination between ages 65-75 reduced risk of
developing Alzheimer's by 25-30% after adjusting for sex, race, birth cohort,
education, smoking, and number of G alleles. The largest reduction in the risk
of Alzheimer's (up to 40%) was observed among people vaccinated against
pneumonia who were non-carriers of the risk gene"

influenza B were 84% (95% CI 78–88%, 79–86%, respectively). Vaccine efficacy
against influenza A(H3N2) was markedly lower (VE 33%, 95% CI −4% to 57%). An
estimated 70% (RR = 0.30; 95% CI 0.11–0.84), 39% (RR = 0.61;0.25–1.43) and
75% (RR = 0.25; 95% CI 0.11–0.50) reduction in the risk of influenza

Vaccine Expert Advises: Immunization Should Be Given As Early In Life As

parents would prefer to postpone the vaccination of their babies until these

overwhelmed by the vaccines. In contrast, pediatricians insist that babies
should be immunized as rapidly as possible after birth against the most
dreadful microbes causing bacterial meningitis or whooping cough. These
infections can cause irreversible damage or even kill the children"

Human Papilloma Virus Vaccines May Decrease Chances Of Oral Cancer -
Science Daily, 8/30/07 - "oral and oropharyngeal

oropharyngeal cancers could be reduced if vaccination were more widespread;
however, additional research is needed"
-
Who Should Get the HPV Vaccine? - Time Magazine, 8/28/07 -
"From a public health standpoint, that logic seems
to makes sense. Since 80% of women who have sex will acquire the virus by
age 50 (in most cases it causes no health problems and clears the body
within two years), it accomplishes little to give the vaccine to older,
sexually active women, who may already have HPV or have already spread it
within the community. But humanpapillomavirus isn't a single virus; rather,
it's a family of viruses that includes at least 100 strains, more than 30 of
which are transmitted sexually. About 10 of those can cause cervical cancer;
others may cause genital warts. So even if a woman has been exposed to one
strain of HPV, there may well be others that she is still vulnerable to. HPV
also poses a threat to men because genital warts can develop into oral
cancer, and a new study in the medical journal Cancer
suggests that young men be vaccinated against HPV"
