Is
dairy colostrum the key to Olympic success? - Science Daily, 2/24/11 -
"bovine colostrum can massively reduce gut
permeability -- otherwise known as 'leaky gut syndrome.' Their findings,
published in the March issue of the American Journal of
Physiology-Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, could have positive
implications not just for athletes but also for sufferers of heatstroke ...
The London School of Medicine and Dentistry looked at athletes who were
asked to run for 20 minutes at 80 per cent of their aerobic maximum. At the
end of the exercise, changes in the subjects gut leakiness were measured
using urine sample -- also determined were changes in the athletes' core
temperature. Under standard conditions, gut leakiness had increased by 250
per cent and temperature had risen by 2 degrees. However, when the group
were given a drink of dairy colostrum for two weeks before the trial, the
rise in gut leakiness was reduced by about 80 per cent, despite the same
effort and temperature rise"

emerges as immunity modulator - HealthLink -
"The best quality colostrum is produced organically
and is free of pesticides, herbicides, anabolic hormones like rBST,
steroids, antibiotics and other chemicals. Not all colostrum products on the
market are biologically active due to improper processing through the use of
high temperatures and pasteurization or the formation of colostrum into
tablets, a method that requires high pressure and generates heat, destroying
biological activity."

A low-dose, 6-week bovine
colostrum supplementation maintains performance and attenuates inflammatory
indices following a Loughborough Intermittent Shuttle Test in soccer players
- Eur J Nutr. 2017 Mar 11 - "The aim of the study was to
investigate the effect of a 6-week, low-dose bovine colostrum (BC)
supplementation on exercise-induced muscle damage (EIMD) and performance decline
in soccer players following the Loughborough Intermittent Shuttle Test (LIST)
during a competitive season period ... randomized, placebo-controlled design,
two groups of soccer players were allocated to a 3.2 g/day of whey protein ...
Post-exercise EIMD may be reduced and performance better maintained by a low
dose of BC administration following LIST in soccer players" - See

Application of Bovine Colostrum Ameliorates Murine Colitis via Induction of
Immunoregulatory Cells - J Nutr. 2011 Apr 27 - "Herein,
we addressed the question whether bovine colostrum, the first milk produced by
mammals, is able to prevent dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice
... Following 2 wk of observation, the colons were removed for histologic and
immunohistochemical evaluation of inflammation. Flow cytometric phenotyping of
leukocyte subsets was performed from peripheral blood, mesenteric lymph nodes,
and spleens. Administration of bovine colostrum improved the clinical and
histologic severity of colorectal inflammation. Compared with BSA-fed and
water-fed controls, BV-20 pretreated mice had significantly less severe weight
loss and decreased colon shortening. Beneficial effects were accompanied by
redistribution of immunoregulatory, peripheral and splenic γδ TCR(+) cells, and
CD11b(+)Gr1(+) cells. Higher colostrum doses did not affect disease activity. In
summary, prophylactic administration of colostrum improved clinical symptoms of
colorectal inflammation in a well-established mouse model of DSS-induced
colitis"

Bovine colostrum as a biologic in clinical medicine: A review â Part II:
Clinical studies - Int J Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2008 May;46(5):211-25 -
"The value of bovine colostrum as a biologic in
medicine is documented in clinical trials and supported by relatively large
databases containing case reports and anecdotal findings. The main actions
include an antibacterial effect and modulation of the immune response. The
ability of bovine colostrum concentrates (BCC are polyvalent bovine
colostrum concentrates produced from the colostrums of several 100 cows) to
neutralize lipopolysaccharides, i.e. endotoxins arising from Gram-negative
bacterial pathogens and to inhibit enterogenic endotoxemia in animal models
as shown in the last review to have its counterpart in patient therapy"

Chemopreventive effects of bovine lactoferrin on
N-butyl-N-(4-hydroxybutyl)nitrosamine-induced rat bladder carcinogenesis
- Jpn J Cancer Res. 2000 Jun;91(6):582-8 - "Group 1
demonstrated a significantly decreased multiplicity of the bladder tumors
(carcinomas and papillomas) as compared with group 3. Maximum cut surface
areas of bladder tumors were also significantly decreased in groups 1 and 2
compared with group 3"
