Many
Americans are still clueless on how to save energy - Science Daily,
8/17/10 - "The largest group, nearly 20 percent,
cited turning off lights as the best approach -- an action that affects
energy budgets relatively little. Very few cited buying decisions that
experts say would cut U.S. energy consumption dramatically, such as more
efficient cars (cited by only 2.8 percent), more efficient appliances (cited
by 3.2 percent) or weatherizing homes (cited by 2.1 percent)"

Stress Testing Biofuels: How the Game Was Rigged - Time, 5/12/09 -
"Study after study suggests that growing fuel could
be a disaster for the planet, while raising global food prices and promoting
global food riots. The amount of grain it takes to fill an SUV with ethanol
could feed an adult for a year; we need every acre of farmland to feed the
world. President Obama never claimed to be a reformer when it came to
ethanol, and he and Vilsack have been big supporters of next-generation
biofuels. Maybe there's nothing EPA officials can do to stop the
renewable-fuels steamroller, but it would nice if they suggested slowing it
down"

Stainless Steel Replaces Platinum In Hydrogen Producing Microbial
Electrolysis Cells - Science Daily, 3/20/09 -
"Penn State researchers have found a way to replace the platinum catalyst in
their hydrogen generating microbial electrolysis cells with stainless steel
brushes without losing efficiency ... While more stainless steel is required
to manufacture the stainless steel brushes than the platinum used as a
catalyst in the carbon cloth cathodes, because of the great difference in
costs between platinum and stainless steel, the stainless steel brushes are
five times less expensive than the platinum catalyzed cathodes"

Colorado Company to Take Algae-Based Fuel to the Next Level -
NYTimes.com, 11/11/08 - "the company is expecting
yields of 2,500 to 3,000 gallons an acre per year ... In contrast, soybeans,
the main source of biodiesel used in this country, yields 50 to 70 gallons
per acre"
-
Biodiesel from algae might be a much better option than from corn, soy or
Jatropha plus it might eliminate the problem of other biodiesels turning
hard like margarine in extremely cold temperatures plus the yield is much
much higher per acre than the others. See:
