Elijah McClain died from ketamine injection, amended autopsy report says - Hill, 9/23/22 - "Elijah McClain, a 23-year-old Black man who died in police custody in 2019, died from a ketamine injection that was too large for his size, according to an amended autopsy report released on Friday" - Note: I threw this in because many are jumping on the ketamine bandwagon for depression and many don't realize the risks.

Eat More Dairy, Less Red Meat to Prevent Type 2 Diabetes - Medscape, 9/20/22 - "Significant increases in the risk of developing type 2 diabetes were found for consumption of 100 g/day of total meat (RR, 1.20; 20% increase) and red meat (1.22, 22% increase) and with 50 g/day of processed meats (1.30, 30% increase). A borderline increased risk was also seen for 50 g/day of white meat (1.04, 4% increase) ... The opposite was found for dairy foods. Inverse associations for type 2 diabetes development were found for an intake of 200 g/day of total dairy (0.95, 5% reduction), low-fat dairy (0.96, 4% reduction), milk (0.90, 10% reduction), and for 100 g/day of yogurt (0.94, 6% reduction) ... Neutral (nonsignificant) effects were found for 200 g/day of full-fat dairy (0.98) and for 30 g/day of cheese (0.97). Fish consumption also had a neutral association with type 2 diabetes risk (1.04 for 100 g/day) as did one egg per day (1.07), but evidence quality was low ... processed meats also contain nitrates, nitrites, and sodium that can contribute to pancreatic cell damage and vascular dysfunction, thus affecting insulin sensitivity"

Wholegrains May Improve Survival in People With Type 2 Diabetes - Medscape, 9/20/22 - "Decreased mortality from any cause was found for a higher intake of fish (SRR per serving/week: 0.95, over six studies); whole grain (SRR per 20 g/day: 0.84; two studies); fiber (SRR per 5 g/day: 0.86; three studies), and omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (SRR per 0.1 g/day: 0.87; two studies) ... A low certainty of evidence was found for an inverse association between all-cause mortality and vegetable consumption (SRR per 100 g/day: 0.88; two studies) and plant protein intake (SRR per 10 g/day: 0.91; three studies) ... Eggs were associated with an increased risk of all-cause mortality (SRR per 10 g/day: 1.05; seven studies), as was dietary cholesterol (SRR per 300 mg/day: 1.19; two studies)"

Association of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acid intake with leukocyte telomere length in US males - Am J Clin Nutr 2022 Sep 20 - "Omega-3 (n-3) and omega-6 (n-6) fatty acids may contribute to oxidative stress and inflammation, which are related to telomere shortening. Evidence supporting an association between intake of n-3 or n-6 fatty acids and leukocyte telomere length (LTL) in males has been limited ... We found that consumption of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) was positively associated with LTL. In the multivariable-adjusted model, compared to individuals who had the lowest intake of DHA (i.e., first quartile group), the percentage differences [95% confidence intervals (CIs)] of LTL were -3.7 (-13.7, 7.5), 7.0 (-4.3, 19.7), and 8.2 (-3.5, 21.3) for individuals in the second, third, and fourth quartiles of consumption, respectively (P for trend = 0.0498). We did not find significant associations between total n-3 or total n-6 fatty acid intakes and LTL. Association between Serum Spermidine and TyG Index: Results from a Cross-Sectional Study - Nutrients 2022 Sep 17 - "After multivariable adjustment, including demographic characteristics, behavioral factors associated with heath, and a history of taking medicine, SPD was inversely associated with the TyG index (β = -0.036; SE: 0.009; p < 0.001). Leucine Supplementation in Middle-Aged Male Mice Improved Aging-Induced Vascular Remodeling and Dysfunction via Activating the Sirt1-Foxo1 Axis - Nutrients 2022 Sep 17 - "Vascular aging is associated with metabolic remodeling, and most studies focused on fatty acid and glucose metabolism. Based on our metabolomic data, leucine was significantly reduced in the aortas of aged mice. Whether leucine supplementation can reverse aging-induced vascular remodeling remains unknown ... Compared with the 21-month-old mice without leucine, leucine supplementation from 15 months significantly improved vascular relaxation, maintained the contractile phenotype of VSMCs, and repressed vascular inflammation and ROS levels. These benefits were not observed in the mice supplemented with leucine starting from 18 months, which was likely due to the reduction in leucine transporters Slc3a2 or Slc7a5 at 18 months. One-year longitudinal association between changes in dietary choline or betaine intake association with cardiometabolic variables in the PREDIMED-Plus trial - Am J Clin Nutr 2022 Sep 16 - "The greatest one-year increase in dietary choline or betaine intake (Q4) was associated with improved serum glucose (-3.39 and -2.72 mg/dL for choline or betaine, respectively) and glycated hemoglobin levels (-0.10% for Q4 of either choline or betaine intake increase). The role of protein intake in the relationship between egg consumption and body composition in young adults. A mediation analysis - Clin Nutr 2022 Sep 6 - "The association between egg consumption and body composition is mediated by protein intake. This finding is important from a public health perspective, suggesting that higher egg consumption (≥5 eggs/week) may lead to a healthier body composition, especially due to higher protein intake" - Note: I eat a couple scrambled eggs per day. Neat Tech Stuff / "How To's":

A huge Chevrolet pickup slammed into my Tesla while I was in the car wash. I couldn't figure out what happened until I got home and looked at the video. With the license number from the video, my insurance company was able to go after the perpetrator. I consider it a hit and run. The damage was $1756. If it weren't for the cameras on the Tesla, I would have been out of luck. I'm an environmental person. I hate SUVs and huge pickups as it is.
