Doctors want alcohol warning labels to flag cancer risks - Washington Post, 9/19/22 - "But those labels haven’t been updated since the late 1980s. Now, researchers say they don’t adequately advertise alcohol consumption’s biggest potential health consequence: cancer, including breast cancer ... Though even moderate consumption carries risk, excessive alcohol use is more dangerous. Guidelines suggest alcohol intake should be limited to two drinks or less a day for men and one or less a day for women, but data suggests the majority of adult drinkers imbibe more."

Alternatively, in comparison to PL group, BCAA supplementation favorably reduces creatine kinase" - See omega-3 supplements at Amazon.com and BCAA products at Amazon.com.

Urolithin A Attenuates Helicobacter pylori-Induced Damage In Vivo - J Agric Food Chem 2022 Sep 15 - "Urolithin A (UA) is a metabolite produced in the gut following the consumption of ellagic acid (EA) rich foods. EA has shown anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Because EA is poorly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, urolithins are considered to play a major role in bioactivity. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection is the most common chronic bacterial infection all over the world. It is potentially hazardous to humans because of its relationship to various gastrointestinal diseases. In this study, we investigated the effect of UA on inflammation by H. pylori. The results indicated that UA attenuated H. pylori-induced inflammation in vitro and in vivo. UA also reduced the secretion of H. pylori virulence factors and tissue injuries in mice. Furthermore, UA decreased the relative abundance of Helicobacteraceae in feces of H. pylori-infected mice. In summary, taking UA effectively inhibited the injury caused by H. pylori" - See urolithin a supplement at Amazon.com.

Piperine attenuates the inflammation, oxidative stress, and pyroptosis to facilitate recovery from spinal cord injury via autophagy enhancement - Phytother Res 2022 Sep 17 - "Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a serious injury that can lead to irreversible motor dysfunction. Due to its complicated pathogenic mechanism, there are no effective drug treatments. Piperine, a natural active alkaloid extracted from black pepper, has been reported to influence neurogenesis and exert a neuroprotective effect in traumatic brain injury ... Piperine enhanced functional recovery after SCI. Additionally, piperine reduced inflammation, oxidative stress, pyroptosis, and activated autophagy. However, the effects of piperine on functional recovery after SCI were reversed by autophagy inhibition. The study demonstrated that piperine facilitated functional recovery after SCI by inhibiting inflammatory, oxidative stress, and pyroptosis, mediated by the activation of autophagy" - See piperine extract at Amazon.com.

Piperine Enhances the Antimalarial Activity of Curcumin in Plasmodium berghei ANKA-Infected Mice: A Novel Approach for Malaria Prophylaxis - Evid Based Complement Alternat Med 2022 Sep 5 - "The delayed onset of clinical symptoms and prolonged survival rate were also significant (p < 0.05) in the combination of curcumin and piperine treated group. In addition, the low parasitic load in the liver and mild histopathological changes in the liver suggest that the combination of curcumin and piperine had synergistic or additive effects. These findings demonstrate the promising use of these combined compounds as a malarial prophylactic" - See piperine extract at Amazon.com and curcumin at Amazon.com.

Leucine intake and risk of impaired physical function and frailty in older adults - J Gerontol A Biol Sci Med Sci 2022 Sep 15 - "Leucine is suggested to play a central role in age-related physical decline, but the effect of dietary leucine intake on physical functioning is uncertain. We examined the prospective association between dietary leucine intake and impaired lower-extremity function (ILEF) and frailty in older adults ... Higher leucine intake was associated with reduced risk of ILEF and frailty. Dietary leucine, obtained from foods rich in high-quality protein, could be a key nutrient to prevent age-related physical function decline in older adults" - See leucine products at Amazon.com.

The effects of rutin flavonoid supplement on glycemic status, lipid profile, atherogenic index of plasma, brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), some serum inflammatory, and oxidative stress factors in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A double-blind, placebo-controlled trial - Phytother Res 2022 Sep 13 - "randomized and supplemented with 500 mg rutin or placebo per day for 3-months ... The results showed a significant decrease in FBG, insulin, HbA1c, HOMO-IR, LDL-c, TG, VLDL, CHOL, LDL-c.HDL-c ratio, AIP, IL-6, and MDA and a significant increase in HDL-c, QUICKI index, BDNF, and TAC compared with the initial value (p for all <.05). In the adjusted model, the mean changes of FBG, insulin, HbA1c, HOMO-IR, LDL-c, CHOL, LDL.HDL ratio, AIP, MDA, and IL-6 were significantly lower and mean changes of QUICKI index, HDL-c, and TAC were significantly higher in the rutin group compared with the placebo group (adjusted p for all <.05). It seems that rutin may have beneficial effects on improving metabolic parameters, BDNF, and inflammatory and oxidative stress factors in T2DM patients" - See rutin at Amazon.com.

Neat Tech Stuff / "How To's":

My wife's son had his car stolen. If he had an AirTag in it, he would have been able to tell where it was. I bought one for both of our cars. My Tesla app tells where my Tesla is but I think they could reprogram the Tesla computer as a new owner. I also got an AirTag along with the holder for one of our two cats who is moving out with my wife's daughter who got married. I'm worried that the cat will try to find it's old home. That cat was a stray that showed up on my security camera. I bought a HavaHart trap and caught her. At first, she wanted out and wasn't taking 'no' for an answer so I named her 'Karen'. She succeeded a couple times but I found her via the AirTag. Now she doesn't want to escape. She got locked out accidently a couple times so now she stays close to the door when she goes out.
