Heart Failure Medication: Moving From Evidence Generation to Implementation - Medscape, 8/11/22 - "Treating patients with heart failure (HF) and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) with renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system (RAAS) inhibitors, beta-blockers, and sodium–glucose co-transporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors at guideline-recommended dosages (GRD) improves quality of life and increases longevity ... mineralocorticoid receptor antagonists (MRAs) ... Sequences starting with an SGLT2 inhibitor, MRA, or both were associated with the most significant reduction in CV death, HF hospitalization, and all-cause death. Notably, up to half of the reduction in events was primarily attributed to shortening the time to reach target dose. This might partially explain why sequences starting with medications with fewer up-titration steps (i.e. SGLT2 inhibitors or MRAs) were associate"

Supplementation with NAD + and Its Precursors to Prevent Cognitive Decline across Disease Contexts - Nutrients 2022 Aug 7 - "The preservation of cognitive ability by increasing nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+) levels through supplementation with NAD+ precursors has been identified as a promising treatment strategy for a number of conditions; principally, age-related cognitive decline (including Alzheimer's disease and vascular dementia), but also diabetes, stroke, and traumatic brain injury. Candidate factors have included NAD+ itself, its reduced form NADH, nicotinamide (NAM), nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), nicotinamide riboside (NR), and niacin (or nicotinic acid). This review summarises the research findings for each source of cognitive impairment for which NAD+ precursor supplementation has been investigated as a therapy. The findings are mostly positive but have been made primarily in animal models, with some reports of null or adverse effect" - See NMN at Amazon.com. Artemisia argyi exhibits anti-aging effects through decreasing the senescence in aging stem cells - Aging (Albany NY) 2022 Aug 9 - "Aging is accompanied by functional loss of many cellular pathways, creating an increased risk of many age-related complications (ARC). Aging causes stem cell exhaustion with a concomitant increase in cellular dysfunction. Recently, interest in senotherapeutics has been growing rapidly to promote healthy aging and as an intervention for ARCs. This research focused on screening the senomorphic properties of Artemisia argyi, as an emerging strategy for longevity, and prevention or treatment of ARCs. In this study, we aimed to find the clinical efficacy of daily consumption of Artemisia argyi water extract (AAW) on aging ... In vitro study showed the protective effect of AAW in telomere shortening and helps in maintaining a balance in the expression of anti-aging protein Klotho and TERT. AAW effectively reduced mitochondrial superoxide and also provided a protective shield against senescence markers like over-expression of p21 and formation of double strand breaks, which is known to cause premature aging. Moreover, animal studies indicated that AAW promoted the expression of Klotho in naturally aging rats. In addition, AAW successfully restored the decline cardiac function and improved the grip strength and memory of aging rat. These findings showed that therapeutic targeting of senescent stem cells by AAW restored stem cell homeostasis and improves overall health" - See Artemisia argyi at Amazon.com. Ascorbic acid induces salivary gland function through TET2/acetylcholine receptor signaling in aging SAMP1/Klotho (-/-) mice - Aging (Albany NY) 2022 Aug 11 - "Aging affects salivary gland function and alters saliva production and excretion. This study aimed to investigate whether ascorbic acid can be used to treat salivary gland dysfunction in an extensive aging mouse model of SAMP1/Klotho-/- mice ... In SAMP1/Klotho -/- mice, daily supplementation with ascorbic acid (100 mg/kg for 18 days) significantly increased saliva secretion compared with the control ... These results suggest that ascorbic acid could overcome the lack caused by dysfunction of ascorbic acid biosynthesis and induce the recovery of salivary gland function" - See vitamin C products at Amazon.com. Berberine inhibits glioma cell migration and invasion by suppressing TGF-β1/COL11A1 pathway - Biochem Biophys Res Commun 2022 Jul 31 - "Glioma is a clinically heterogeneous disease with a poor prognosis. Berberine (BBR), as a multi-target anti-tumor alkaloid, has the ability to penetrate the blood-brain barrier and shows cytotoxicity to glioma cells. In previous studies, we demonstrated that berberine inhibits glioma cell proliferation by inhibiting mutant p53 protein and promoting mitochondrial damage. In addition, berberine has been shown to reduce collagen accumulation in pulmonary fibrosis, diabetic nephropathy and arthritis. However, its effect on collagen in cancer needs to be further elucidated ... Collectively, berberine that targets COL11A1 to inhibit glioma migration and invasion, may serve as a promising candidate for the development of anti-glioma drugs in the future" - See berberine at Amazon.com.

Effects of medium chain triglycerides on lipid metabolism in high-fat diet induced obese rats - Food Funct 2022 Aug 9 - "A high fat diet was fed to Sprague-Dawley rats to induce obesity, and then caprylic triglyceride (CYT), capric triglyceride (CT) and lauric triglyceride (LT) were synthesized and used to treat the obese rats for 12 weeks. The obesity phenotype and molecular changes related to lipid metabolism were determined. The results showed that all the three MCTs reduced the body weight (BW) and fat coefficient in obese rats, and the levels of plasma and liver lipids were also improved. Among the MCT groups, the LT group showed the lowest BW with the lowest food intake" - See medium-chain triglycerides at Amazon.com. That's me.
