  • Tongkat Ali: Herbal Medicine for Sexual Dysfunction, Increased Testosterone, & Male Fertility - Natural Practitioner Magazine, 6/13/18 - "In a three-week, randomized open trial,10 30 subjects (married men whose age ranges between 31 and 52 years) received 100 mg/day of LJ100. Blood samples were collected at baseline, one week, and three weeks, and measurements were taken for total testosterone hormone, DHEA sulfate (DHEA), and sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels. In addition, the subjects filled out two questionnaires: (1) a validated sexual health inventory questionnaire (SHIQ) and (2) the partial androgen deficiency in aging men (PADAM) score questionnaires. Results showed that DHEA (a hormonal precursor to androgens like testosterone) levels gradually increased from 26 percent after one week to 47 percent after three weeks. SHBG levels decreased in 36 percent of the cases after one week, and 66 percent after three weeks. This is valuable since SHBG can bind to testosterone, making it temporarily unavailable for use by the body. In addition, the free testosterone index escalated in 39 percent of the subjects after one week to 73 percent after three weeks. Furthermore, analysis of the SHIQ questionnaire results demonstrated that 62 percent of the cases had either increased or maximum scores after consuming LJ100. Analysis of the PADAM score showed 91 percent improvement of sexual component of PADAM score, 73 percent improvement in physical component, and 82 percent improvement of psychological component of PADAM score."
  • Male Hormonal Health and the Role of Eurycoma longifolia Herb in Enhancing Free Testosterone in Ageing Men - Rainforest Herbs, 8/13/17 - "In their follow-up study the effects of Tongkat Ali extract on testosterone, dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) were investigated over a 3 week period using an intermediate dosage of 50 mg extract capsules, with 4 capsules taken each day. Also a questionnaire to determine improvement in quality of life and sexual response was given to the participants. The final results showed that 82% of the participants experienced improvements in physical, sexual and psychological well-being. While total testosterone was not significantly different, the DHEA levels had increased by 26% after one week to 47% after 3 weeks. SHBG levels had reduced in 66% of cases after 3 weeks. When SHBG decreases the free testosterone index (FTI) increases. The FTI analysis showed an increase in 39% of participants after 1 week and 73% of participants after 3 weeks."

  • A 6-month, double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized trial to evaluate the effect of Eurycoma longifolia (Tongkat Ali) and concurrent training on erectile function and testosterone levels in androgen deficiency of aging males (ADAM) - Maturitas 2021 Mar - "Androgen deficiency of aging males (ADAM) largely manifests as sexual symptoms. Erectile dysfunction is one of the most common symptoms of ADAM ... 6-month, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled four-arm clinical. 45 men (47.38 ± 5.03 years) were randomized into 4 groups (G1: control + placebo; G2: control + Eurycoma longifolia; G3: concurrent training + placebo; G4: concurrent training + Eurycoma longifolia). 22 received a 200 mg supplement of Eurycoma longifolia and 23 underwent the intervention with concurrent training, 3 times a week for 60 min at progressive intensity ... Erectile function demonstrated improvements in both interventions; however, the most significant results were obtained by men allocated to concurrent training + Eurycoma longifolia" - [Nutra USA] - See Tongkat at Amazon.com.
  • Exercise associated or not to the intake of Eurycoma longifolia improves strength and cardiorespiratory fitness in men with androgen deficiency - Comp Ther Clin Prac, Feb 21 - "This study aims to analyze the effects of a concurrent training (CT) associated with Eurycoma longifolia (EL) supplementation on the muscle strength, cardiorespiratory fitness, and symptomatology score of men with the androgen deficiency of aging male (ADAM). Forty-five subjects (47.6 ± 5.2 years) were included in the study. The randomized, double-blinded, placebo controlled clinical trial lasted for 6 months. Participants were randomized into four groups, control (C; n = 12); EL (n = 11); CT (n = 11); and CT + EL (n = 11). Along this period, the isokinetic peak torque of the knee extensors increased in the CT (14%) and CT + EL (17%) groups (p = 0.040; p = 0.006, respectively), while the isokinetic peak torque of knee flexion increased in the CT + EL group only (p < 0.05). For all participants, testosterone levels were correlated with isokinetic peak torque of knee extension (r = 0.517, p = 0.001) and flexion (r = 0.362, p = 0.028). Subjects of the CT (27.3%) and CT + EL (36.1%) groups decreased the symptomatology of ADAM (p = 0.005). This study demonstrated the benefits of CT and EL consumption as a non-pharmacological treatment for ADAM" - [Nutra USA]
  • The effect of Eurycoma Longifolia on the regulation of reproductive hormones in young males - Andrologia 2021 May - "Eurycoma longifolia supplementation increases testosterone levels in humans via activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and/or the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis mainly in older adults and nonhealthy populations ... Thirty-two males (24.4 ± 4.7 years; 1.74 ± 0.07 m; 73.7 ± 8.4 kg) in a placebo-controlled, double-blind, matched-paired study received 600 mg/day Eurycoma longifolia or placebo for two weeks. Blood analysis using repeated measures analysis of variance showed significant interaction and time effects for testosterone (F1,30 = 9.04, p = .005), free testosterone (F1,30 = 7.13, p = .012) and estradiol (F1,30 = 8.07, p = .008) levels in favour of the treatment group, while luteinising hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone and sexual hormone-binding globulin did not. The lack of changes in luteinising hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone levels suggests that a lesser role played by Eurycoma longifolia in activating the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in the young adults. The raised testosterone level may be due to a greater rate of hormone production via the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. The supplementation of Eurycoma longifolia for two weeks demonstrates steroidogenic effects on young men were dose-related. Consequently, the raised testosterone following Eurycoma longifolia supplementations could benefit muscle and strength gain in young adults" - [Nutra USA] - I take it to lower SHBG. SHBG bines with total testosterone causing lower free testosterone. My SHBG was really high so I came up with my own formula: Tongkat Ali, stinging nettle, boron, DHEA and 50 mg of prescription danazol that I purchased from an overseas pharmacy. It makes a big difference in you sex life and getting rid of your gut.  See Tongkat (Eurycoma Longifolia) at Amazon.com and also the LJ 100 Tongkat used in this trial.

  • Men’s Sexual Health: Testosterone & Nitric Oxide Modulation - Huntington University of Health Sciences - "it is significant to note that the human clinical research has been done on a specific proprietary extract known as LJ100. This is important since the LJ100 extract of E. longifolia has been standardized for ... eurypeptides, naturally-occurring compounds which may be the active phytochemicals in E. longifolia, or at least serve as a marker for extract quality ... Human clinical studies on LJ100 have ... been conducted at different dosage levels, but 200 mg/day showed the most benefits. Studies included both controlled trials and open-label trials. It will not be possible to provide a detailed review all of the studies; however, here ...is a synopsis of the research results: Depending on the study, T increased 16.4-71.5 percent 11-13 ... Depending on the study, cortisol decreased 16-32 percent14,11 ... DHEA increased 47 percent9 ... Sexual health scores improved significantly10,15, as much as 91 percent9 ... It appears that at least one of the mechanisms of action for LJ100 is the reduction of sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) levels. SHBG is a glycoprotein that binds to sex hormones. While bound to SHBG, T cannot bind to cellular androgen receptors—which means that it won’t have any of the valuable effects of T in this form. Of course, SHBG-bound T can be unbound, but it can take a while for this to happen. Furthermore, SHBG levels increase as we age.2 In one of the studies, LJ100 was shown to reduce SHBG levels in 36 percent of the cases after one week, and 66 percent after three weeks" - See LJ100 at Amazon.com.
  • Tongkat Ali as a potential herbal supplement for physically active male and female seniors--a pilot study - Phytother Res 2014 Apr - "Thirteen physically active male and 12 physically active female seniors (57-72 years) were supplemented with 400-mg TA extract daily for 5 weeks ... Treatment resulted in significant increases in total and free testosterone concentrations and muscular force in men and women. The increase in free testosterone in women is thought to be due to the significant decline in sex hormone-binding globulin concentrations"
  • Effect of Tongkat Ali on stress hormones and psychological mood state in moderately stressed subjects - J Int Soc Sports Nutr. 2013; 10: 28 - "The effects of tongkat ali in restoring normal testosterone levels appears to be less due to actually “stimulating” testosterone synthesis, but rather by increasing the release rate of “free” testosterone from its binding hormone, sex-hormone-binding-globulin (SHBG) [17,18]. In this way, eurycoma may be considered not so much a testosterone “booster” (such as an anabolic steroid), but rather a “maintainer” of normal testosterone levels and a “restorer” of normal testosterone levels (from “low” back “up” to normal ranges) [19]. This would make eurycoma particularly beneficial for individuals with sub-normal testosterone levels, including those who are dieting for weight loss, middle-aged individuals suffering with fatigue or depression, and intensely training athletes who may be at risk for overtraining ... Salivary cortisol levels were significantly lower (−16% compared to placebo, PL) following tongkat ali (TA) supplementation (200 mg/day for 4 weeks) ... Daily supplementation (200 mg/day for 4 weeks) with tongkat ali (TA) resulted in significant improvements compared to placebo (PL) for indices of Tension (−11%), Anger (−12%), and Confusion (−15%) in moderately stressed adults ... Tongkat ali has been referred to as Malaysia’s “home-grown Viagra” [4] with the Malaysian government investing considerable effort to license, develop, and sustain research into the potential health benefits of Eurycoma longifolia through a variety of governmental organizations, including the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia" - See tongkat at Amazon.com.
